Challenge
The breathtaking Drummond Drive home is a unique, high-end custom residence located in Vancouver, BC. The interior of this home and the beautiful outside landscape are weaved together cleverly through architectural design and a generous use of glazing.
A project with this level of sophistication required intense coordination and negotiation with all consultants involved to blend the complex mechanical systems with the home’s architectural aesthetics and unique structural needs.

Approach
Ecolighten Energy Solutions applied their home performance design expertise and worked closely with all parties to find innovative solutions to mechanical HVAC design challenges.
One of the challenges included a custom indoor pool surrounded by an orange and tropical tree grove. Another challenge was gaining classification of the house by Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), which resulted in hybrid performance requirements between commercial and residential buildings; and compliance and verification consulting with AHJ to coordinate mechanical HVAC system approvals.
Due to the complexity of the project’s mechanical design, Ecolighten helped bring clarity to the project by modelling the complete HVAC system in 3D into the architect’s virtual model to show the detailed integration with structural and interior design.
