Urban Solar Garden Update

As part of our work supporting Energy Save New West, Ecolighten is pleased to provide an update on the City of New Westminster’s Urban Solar Garden initiative.
In March, the City of New Westminster moved forward with the Urban Solar Garden’s implementation phase by issuing a Request For Proposal (RFP) to identify a contractor to provide the design, installation, and commissioning services required for the construction of the 50 kW solar photo-voltaic (PV) array.
The RFP is now open for experienced solar PV contractors to respond with their prospective proposals until Wednesday, March 28th. Once the RFP closes, the City will look to award a contact in mid-April, and finalize site selection between the Queensborough Community Centre and the Public Works Yard building.
Construction of the Urban Solar Garden is planned to commence in the Spring with final commissioning on the solar PV array targeted for summer 2018.
Additionally, this renewable energy project has recently been featured in the Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers. The Vancouver Sun article titled: “New Westminster aims to grow its own energy with Urban Solar Garden” provides an overview of the project including City objectives, current status of development and examples of other renewable energy initiatives in BC.
