High Performance New Home Workshop

Posted by Ryan ColemanOctober 10, 2014

As part of Ecolighten’s Energy Services support for Energy Save New West, we’re pleased to help facilitate and participate in the City of New Westminster’s “High Performance New Home” workshop.  The October 2014 workshop  brought together City planners, engineers, building officials and policy makers to discuss green building and municipal policy levers to support high performance new home construction.  Additional participants in the workshop included representation from other municipalities in the Lower Mainland, FortisBC, BC Hydro and building industry professionals.  Some of the highlights of the session include:

  • Building Energy 101 – Current construction techniques and improving envelope and systems, energy modeling, codes and standards and bylaw changes.
  • Certifications & Accreditation – Exploring LEED, Passive House, Living Building and new BC Building Code Section 9.36 implications.
  • Role of Local Governments – Results from other jurisdictions including policy, exemptions, bylaws, planning and general regulatory considerations for peak performers.
