FortisBC Efficiency in Action Award

Earlier this month, Ecolighten was pleased to attend the 2017 FortisBC Efficiency in Action Awards where the City of New Westminster was recognized for support of FortisBC’s Rental Apartment Efficiency Program (RAEP).
There were eleven (11) awards in the categories of public sector, commercial, industrial, foodservice and new home construction handed out at a luncheon on Thursday, May 4th at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver. The City of New Westminster was recognized in the public sector “municipal government” category.
Promoted through the City’s community energy program Energy Save New West, local participation and overall results of RAEP in City of New Westminster included the following highlights:
- 28 buildings representing ~1,300 units
- Annual energy reductions: 4,000 GJs
- Annual cost savings: >$60,000
- Annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) reduction expected: 200 tCO2e
- Annual water savings: 9 million litres
Overall, FortisBC’s Efficiency in Action awards recognize exceptional energy savings in residential building, commercial upgrades and industrial operations. Award winners include businesses of all sizes, municipalities and institutions that have worked with FortisBC to make a significant reduction in their energy use.
Through their combined efforts, the 2017 winners have saved an estimated 120,000 gigajoules (GJ) of annual natural gas savings, which is the equivalent of taking approximately 1,200 gasoline-powered cars off the road.
