CAGBC Inspired Educator Award Winner – BCIT ZEBLC

As part of the BCIT Zero Energy Buildings Learning Centre (ZEBLC) team, Ecolighten is thrilled to announce that BCIT ZEBLC is the official WINNER of the 2021 CAGBC INSPIRED EDUCATOR AWARD!

The CAGBC Awards are given by the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) to deserving members as a recognition of their significant contribution to the Council’s mission to advance Canada’s green building industry. The Inspired Educator Award recognizes an institution for educating learners in sustainable design, green building, operations, and/or real estate development at a post-secondary academic institution.

BCIT ZEBLC’s focus is to support the construction industry with transitioning to the new BC Energy Step Code and new City of Vancouver Zero Emissions Building bylaws by providing a range of practical, hands-on learning for building professionals in BC.  

Ecolighten is proud to be part of the ZEBLC team supporting their Zero Energy Buildings curriculum. With BCIT collaboration, our team has successfully developed and continued to deliver the ‘CESA 1140 Zero Energy Building Mechanical Systems (for Residential Buildings)’ and ‘CESA 1505 Zero Energy Buildings All-In-1’ (Mechanical Systems part only) courses since Spring 2020. These courses are designed to assist a range of building professionals including builders, contractors, and architects/designers advance their understanding of best practices and unintended consequences associated with poorly selected, designed, installed, and verified HVAC systems through real-world examples in residential applications. Students participating in these courses gain a practical insight into the HVAC requirements to meet the Upper Steps of the BC Energy Step Code including the Passive House standard.
