Ecolighten is proud to be featured in the September 2014 edition of BC Hydro's Smart Homes E-Newsletter. This latest article highlights Ecolighten's collaboration with BC Hydro and Britco on the 2014 PNE Prize Home.
Ecolighten would like to thank BC Hydro, Britco and all the builder and energy industry professionals who attended the Builder Workshop at the PNE Prize Home last month.
This year's PNE Prize Home was designed in partnership between BC Hydro, Britco, and Ecolighten. Ecolighten provided Home Performance Design services early on in the construction process. By considering the energy efficient goals and performance early, there are fewer construction surprises and better energy performance results for the home.
Some of the features that make the 2014 PNE Prize Home a BC Hydro Power Smart home are:
The PNE Prize Home has always been one of the popular attractions at the Pacific National Exhibition. Same as in past years, this year's Prize Home is a luxurious, comfortable and professionally designed open concept home. But there's more!
For the first time, the PNE Prize Home is a Power Smart New Home. Join us in a private builder event to tour this amazing home - featuring BC Hydro, FortisBC and Britco Structures along with Ecolighten, a contributing partner to the design of the Prize Home. In collaboration with BC Hydro and Birtco Construction, Ecolighten is pleased to provide Home Performance Design services to support the construction of the 2014 PNE Show Home. Since launching in summer of 2013, Ecolighten is pleased to report that over 250 local residents and businesses have participated in Energy Save New West.
As Program Manager, Ecolighten is supporting the community-based initiative that is designed to improve the energy efficiency of homes and businesses in New Westminster. The program makes the energy upgrade process easier and less complicated, and provides guidance and support along the way.
Interested in learning about energy renovations for older homes? This April, Ecolighten will be supporting Energy Save New West and the City of New Westminster with an interactive workshop that presents home upgrade strategies that will improve the energy performance and occupant comfort of a home while maintaining or enhancing the heritage and character elements of a home.
As part of Ecolighten’s program coordination for Energy Save New West, we’re pleased to be working with the City of New Westminster to help local New West businesses access a free energy assessment from a LiveSmartBC Business Energy Advisor (BEA). Since launching the business program in November, we’re happy to update that over sixty (60) businesses have already completed energy assessments!
On Thursday, February 20th, 2014, Ecolighten will be presenting the results of the “Quality Installation Study for Furnaces” that we completed in collaboration with FortisBC and other industry stakeholders.
During this past summer, FortisBC commissioned Ecolighten to conduct a study to review the installations (and ultimately performance) of a random sample of furnaces installed during their 2012 Furnace Replacement Pilot Program.
Ecolighten will report our findings based on evaluations of fifty (50) furnace installs across the province. Using TECA’s Quality First™ written guidelines, the furnace installations were inspected on fourteen (14) visual points including, radius elbows, turning vanes, two pipe venting, matching thermostats, type of filters and also assessed on six (6) empirical measurements including external static pressure, temperature rise and combustion analyzing.
As part of our program management support for the City of New Westminster’s Energy Save New West initiative, Ecolighten is pleased to announce the launch of the Community Energy Challenge Up for grabs is the grand prize of $3,500 worth of Energy Star® appliances, as well as ten secondary prizes of $150 VISA gift certificates.
“This community-based energy-efficiency program is designed to inspire New Westminster residents to maximize their energy saving opportunities through the installation of one or more home upgrades,” said Ryan Coleman, Project Manager for Energy Save New West. “Whether you’re installing a high-efficiency furnace or attic and basement insulation, we want to capture and reward City of New Westminster residents for undertaking energy saving activities.”
Ecolighten is pleased to support the City of New Westminster with the launch of the business energy-efficiency program for Energy Save New West. Under the program, the City of New Westminster has teamed up with The Province’s LiveSmartBC: Small Business Program, Metro Vancouver Regional District, BC Hydro Power Smart and FortisBC to help small and medium sized businesses identify potential energy and money saving opportunities in their facilities.
The process starts with a free energy assessment from a Building Energy Advisor who will walk through the facility and help the business owner uncover the energy saving opportunities in their operation. The energy assessment takes about an hour to complete, after which participants will receive a report outlining how energy is being used in the facility, including potential energy savings through equipment replacement, lighting upgrades, operational practices and more.
